SCI Kiwanis has helped support the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington, Backstreet Missions, Head Start, the Salvation Army, WonderLab, Key Club of Bloomington, Summit Elementary K-Kids, the Alzheimer's Memory Walk, Eastern Green Elementary Terrific Kids, the Crestmont Park Beautification Project, the Franklin Initiative Reality Stores, the local Letter Carriers' Food Drive, University Elementary K-Kids, Jackson Creek Middle School Builders Club, Builders Club of Bloomington, Edgewood High School Key Club, IU Circle K, the Family Resource Center's Diaper Drive, Ronald McDonald House and Riley Hospital for Children. For these philanthropic efforts, Kiwanis Club of South Central Indiana has been honored as an Indiana District Distinguished Club and a Kiwanis International Distinguished Club.

Movits! - 2011 Lotus World Music & Arts Festival

The Swedish band Movits! perform at the lotusfest.org 2011 Lotus World Music & Arts Festival in Bloomington Indiana -- brothers Johan and Anders Rensfeldt, and Joakim Nilsson -- got hooked on swing after hearing Benny Goodman's "Sing, Sing, Sing" at a festival after-party. They call their music Äppelknyckarjazz ("Apple-stealing jazz," after trousers worn by Swedish street kids in the '30s and '40s). Even if you don't speak their language, you'll get the groove.

Bloomington Indiana Education Rally

With Indiana's governor, state superintendent of education and Republican lawmakers attacking education and workers, Indiana House Democrats remain in Illinois, denying Republicans a quorum they need to pass the threatening legislation. Bloomington Indiana was one of several Indiana communities holding rallies on February 26th to support the Democratic legislators and public education. The Bloomington rally was sponsored by the local teachers' union, the Monroe County Education Association.
